    Homer Community School includes one elementary school, a middle school, and one high school. There is also an adult education center located in the high school. The school district's total enrollment is about 1,075 students. In addition to the City of Homer, the Homer School District covers over 93 square miles; it has a total population of about 5,000 people.

    Noteworthy Highlights

    The school district is especially proud of its reputation for academic excellence and record of success. Noteworthy highlights of Homer's overall education program include:

    Students who consistently score above average on national tests.

    Highly qualified and experienced staff. Approximately 50 percent of Homer teachers have earned a masters degree or above. In addition, over 75 percent of the Homer staff have taught in the school district at least 10 years.

    A district-wide curriculum council which reviews and evaluates curriculum and updates materials in each curriculum area on a 5-year rotating basis.

    Active school improvement teams at each school.

    A modern, well-equipped media center.

    Up to date locker rooms,gymnasium, and athletic facilities.

    Homer Community School's Trojan foundation forms the basis for a partnership with business leaders which encourages and supports special school projects.

    A wide range of special services provided by caring staff including a school social worker for children with special needs.

    A variety of extracurricular activities in both academic and athletic areas.

    An extensive agriculture education and vocational education program.

    A support staff (custodians, aides, drivers, and cooks) who thoroughly enhance the academic program at Homer Community School.

    An Invitation

    The staff of Homer Community School invites parents who are considering enrolling children to stop by and ask the principal or Superintendent about the school and its programs. People without children to enroll are also envited to stop and learn more about the adult education programs (offered through our state-approved adult education program) or our Adult Enrichment Program.

    Board of Education

    The Board of Education meets regularly on the third Monday of the month beginning at 8:00 PM in the high school media center. Meetings of the Board are open to the public, and time is allotted for brief comments from guests in the audience.
