The Homer Area Community Foundation (HACF) has awarded grants totaling $9,002 from their Homer Youth Advisory Committee Fund, the Fund for Homer and the Bessie Edwards Fund.
Grants were awarded as follows:

• Tara Wilbur’s sophomore English class was awarded $250 for partial funding of a class trip to see a mini play production.
• The Homer Historical Society received $1,000 to partially fund the publication of Ties to Homer.
• The Homer Recycling Center was awarded $4,500 to assist in establishing a permanent recycling facility in the Homer Community.
• The Homer Community Schools Art Club received $2,000 for the integration of digital photography technology into the art curriculum as well as the Art Club.
• The Homer Community Schools Instructional Media Center received $600 to establish a book club for Middle School and High School students.
• Homer Community Schools was awarded $500 to provide a speaker for the Leadership Summit.
• A mini-grant of $152 was awarded to Susan Vincent to purchase algebra tiles, a balance scale and activity books for her Middle School Algebra students.
This completes the second round of grants for this year. Applications for the first round of grants to be awarded next year will be available in September. Mini-grants for up to $200 can be applied for at any time.

The HACF awarded the following scholarships:

• Phil Duff Scholarship - Chrystal Redfield, $250
• George and Betty Petredean Scholarship - Laura Sachjen and Matt McCullough, $2,000 each
• Homer POWER for Kids Scholarship - Graig Brooks, $250
• SLF/Blair Scholarship - Myra Colson, $500
• Bessie L. Smith Scholarship - Myra Colson, $500
• Harry and Linda Lucyshyn Memorial Scholarship - Kathryn Campbell, $500
• FFA Scholarship - Quint Butters, Kara Butters, Kenda Butters, Kathryn
Campbell and Mayla Campbell, $60 each
• Folk Family Scholarship - Kara Diegert, $1,000
