Homer Youth Art On-Line
Homer Michigan
Previously, we saw two other portraits using a style called "Found Pictures"
where the result was a somewhat modernized or distorted view of humanity.
This self portrait is much more realistic, although it also uses bright colors
that are more primary than a flesh toned face.
This style of art is called Fauvism. The Fauvists used
pure, brilliant colour, applied straight from the paint tubes in an aggressive,
direct manner
to create a sense of an explosion on the canvas.
The background of blue sky
and fluffy clouds seems to match the facial expression of this portrait.
