This is a very peaceful scene, done in a peaceful style of work called pointilism. You may remember a famous painting done in this style of another lake, with a lady holding a big umbrella, and wearing a dress with a big bustle. (or maybe not) Pointilism means many dots. You can see the shades are really just many dots, in this case done with a magic marker.
